WHY do test results have to take so long?

    I am waiting on test results on blood I offered up Wednesday. It is Monday. The lab is open today (I asked). No message on the machine, not even a blip on the caller ID.

    All I need is a number. My fasting blood sugar. There will be other numbers, but that’s the only one I care about.

    I am waiting to hear how close I am to being diabetic. With a family history, gestational diabetes with one child and occasional episodes of hypoglycemia, my odds aren’t good -– 50-50 at best. So I called the family doctor and requested the blood work. I’d rather know now, while I feel relatively good, than when bad things start happening and it becomes all too obvious why.

    All I want is the number. And it won’t come today.
