How relevant is 9/10ths?

Here’s a philosophical question: How do you relay gas prices? If it’s $2.28 and 9/10ths, do you just call it $2.28, even though it really is very nearly $2.29? I do, and so does anyone else I’ve asked.

Our neighborhood gas station has unleaded at $2.29 this morning. I dearly wish I had time for a road trip.
