When my son gave me a beautiful leatherbound Lewis Carroll volume for my birthday and I saw the endpapers, I smiled and told him these were based on the original illustrations. As proof I brought out the White Rabbit pin my mother gave me decades ago, a reproduction from the Metropolitan Museum of Art store.
