This is another of those odd coincidences that pops up in my life. I was watching “The Perfect Couple” and Isabel told Amelia, in French and English, “Objectively, you are beautiful.” It stuck with me because of the unusual phrasing. Is it more of a compliment to say that she is beautiful in a way that should be apparent to everyone, that it’s not merely subjective? No matter, I filed it away.

Within the day I was watching “Station Eleven.” A character was reading a graphic novel on a beach and this is what I caught down in the corner:
