Well, of course I’d like both. Pretty much everyone in Michigan who gives any thought to the matter would, I think.
But if we can have only one championship between the NBA and NHL, I’d have to go with Lord Stanley.
Nothing against the Pistons. I spent part of my 1989 honeymoon watching the Bad Boys pull down that championship. And growing up in Kentucky, it’s hard not to come away with a love of all things basketball. (Go Cats.)
But in our home, hockey has wedged in closer to our hearts.
Sure, there have been some disappointments. You never like to see an empty-net goal. And the second period of Game 1, the Wings were asleep on their skates.
But this is the season they were built for, and with the salary cap in place, there should be a lot less whining about buying a championship.
This should be the year. Again.
