My nearly 14-year-old son’s current favorite website is the one for OzzFest 2007. In case you haven’t heard, tickets are free this year. Yeah, that’s right: free concert tickets.
The boy is dying to see his first rock concert. He was jealous when I went to see Velvet Revolver about a year and a half ago, and fantasized about the Warped Tour last summer. So when I mentioned Tuesday’s announcement to him, a new mission was born.
There are downsides. One is that we don’t know who will be playing yet, and even Sharon Osbourne admits that major headliners won’t play 25 dates for free. Still, maybe someone who’s in the area already will drop in for a date or two.
The much larger downside is the tour isn’t coming to Michigan. I have allowed that three cities, Chicago, Indianapolis and Columbus, are around five hours away and within the realm of possibility. He has determined that each sponsor gets a certain number of tickets to give away, and is scouring online for details.
Do I want to go? It depends a lot on who will be there. But my budding guitar hero wants it very much right now, so it’s on the table.<P>
